3 x This is how you stay slim on holiday

The summer is coming. Get away from the daily grind and enjoy the nice weather, spend a lot of time outside and have some free time. Wonderful of course, but such a holiday is a challenge for many people when it comes to losing weight or maintaining it. After all, during a holiday you often eat more, drink more alcohol and exercise less. Fortunately, there are ways to get through your holiday slim, without having to compromise on enjoyment. These three pieces of advice will certainly help you!

Tip 1: Start the day with a healthy breakfast

Make sure you start the day with a healthy breakfast. That doesn't mean a croissant with jam or rolls every day. Oatmeal is a healthy alternative. You can simply take this with you from home if you are staying at a campsite or in an apartment. You can combine this with 1 or 2 pieces of fruit. No oatmeal? Then choose scrambled eggs with some vegetables for a healthy and nutritious start to the day. Such a breakfast gives you enough energy to enjoy yourself and ensures a feeling of fullness so that you are less likely to reach for (unhealthy) snacks.

Tip 2: Keep moving

Keeping moving is also very important on holiday. So just bring your sports gear. This sounds contradictory to many people because for many people a holiday means 'relaxation'. But anyone who exercises regularly knows that it is also a way of relaxing. So go for a nice walk (go for at least 20,000 steps!), running, cycling or swimming. You can also see if there is a gym near your holiday address that you can go to. There are also plenty of workouts available online that you can also do on holiday. It's fun to challenge yourself sportingly even on holiday!

Tip 3: Drink plenty of water

To feel good about yourself on holiday, it is important that you stay well hydrated throughout the day. Drink two glasses of water before or with your breakfast and make sure you continue to drink water for the rest of the day. Postpone drinking alcohol until later in the day. It ensures that you have less energy. The same applies to (sugary) soft drinks and fruit juices. Avoid those and drink plenty of water instead, possibly with a slice of lemon and a sprig of mint in it for an extra fresh taste.

"But can't I have anything tasty anymore?"

If you read these tips, you may think that you are not allowed to 'sin' on holiday at all. Fortunately, that is not the case. If you ensure that the basis of what you consume is healthy and you exercise enough and drink enough water, you can order that ice cream or drink that glass of wine in the evening. You will enjoy that even more! Always try to make a very conscious choice and go for either/or and not both/and. For example, only have a dessert if you see something on the menu that you really like and never eat at home. Or instead of a whole pizza, opt for half and have a fresh salad with it.

I wish you a nice holiday!
